Full plot (contains spoilers)
The story is set in old Russia. Olga Petrovna, Princess Woronzoff, has fallen in love again after her divorce. Her new beloved is Dimitri Solovyov, the son of the chief of police. When her new love dies tragically, the divorced princess is beside herself and henceforth pursues the suspected culprit with all her hatred. She is certain that a certain Dr. Nemirowski committed the bloody deed and therefore wants revenge on him. She follows the doctor, who has fled to Switzerland, and has him watched there. Olga is finally about to hand the supposed culprit over to the police when she learns the true reasons that led to her fiancé’s death: he had betrayed her with Nemirowski’s sweetheart, whereupon the latter sought satisfaction in a duel of honor—the outcome is well known.
