A bet over a robot turns a wealthy athlete’s home life into an increasingly intrusive test of endurance.
The story
In the distant future, in the year 2000, wealthy American athlete George Fogg and physicist Ardan spend their time at their club, and both love millionaire’s daughter Lee Kennedy. The two men make an unusual wager: Ardan will build a robot in two weeks, betting that Fogg cannot endure its company for three days and nights. Ardan creates the artificial being and directs it to Fogg’s house by remote control. The electric man follows Fogg everywhere, even intruding on his rendezvous with Lee, leaving Fogg unable to find any peace as the wager’s deadline approaches.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In the distant future, in the year 2000, athlete George Fogg and physicist Ardan are two wealthy Americans who enjoy spending time at their club. They are both in love with the pretty millionaire’s daughter, Lee Kennedy. One day, they make an unusual bet: Ardan is to build a robot within the next two weeks, and he claims Fogg will not be able to put up with the creature for three days and nights. Ardan does indeed create this artificial being and steers it straight into Fogg’s house using a camera-obscura remote control. The electric man now follows Fogg at every turn; even during a rendezvous with Lee, Fogg cannot get any peace. As the third day dawns, the robot problem takes care of itself: because Ardan set the voltage too high, the artificial being’s wires burn through, causing an explosion, and Ardan’s house comes crashing down on top of him.
