Die Insel der Amazonen (1960)

The Argentinians Liz and Trixi, the Englishwoman Pat, the Frenchwoman Colette, the German Katrin, and Katrin’s friends Sonja and Merci attend the “Internat des jeunes Filles,” a boarding school in a lovely sunny spot in Mediterranean Europe. They will soon have finished their school-leaving exams, and, at Colette’s suggestion, the girls decide to take a trip around the Mediterranean together before each returns to her home country. Adventure and fun are supposed to be the focus of their yachting spree, but suddenly Colette herself tells them she can’t go because her mother needs her at home. That, however, is only an excuse: the truth is that Colette simply can’t afford a trip like this, which is supposed to take them as far as the coast of Africa and the Orient. So the other girls decide to travel on a cargo ship, since that would be more adventurous anyway and would also let them bring Colette along. The journey soon proves far more adventurous than the seven young women had planned. When they accept an invitation from a handsome meteorologist named Manuel to visit his remote, supposedly almost deserted island, it turns out to be a haunt of criminals. Several villains have settled there under the leadership of a man named Murdock, and are searching illegally for treasure. Their goal is to recover a number of gold bars from a hidden aircraft wreck. The crooks have no use for curious witnesses and people who know too much, and the seven beauties soon find themselves in grave danger. At the very last moment, a police boat arrives at the shore, rescues the naïve girls, and prevents worse from happening. Meanwhile, Liz and Manuel have grown closer and fallen in love, and decide to stay together in the future.
