A romantic Easter weekend in the country becomes a tangle of secret lovers and cover stories.

The story

Lucy and Ole plan to spend Easter on a romantic weekend in the country, but their secret lovers, Peter and Ina, arrive without warning after leaving their own partners. Lucy and Ole cannot bring themselves to turn the guests away or tell their partners the truth, so they invent cover stories. Lucy passes Peter, a sign-language teacher, off as a cook, while Ole presents Ina as a former model. Their attempt to keep the weekend peaceful is upended as the lies and entanglements begin.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Lucy and Ole want to spend Easter enjoying a romantic weekend in the country. At just that moment, their secret lovers, Peter and Ina, each show up unannounced. Both have left their own partners, throwing Lucy and Ole’s peaceful plans into disarray. They don’t dare turn their lovers away, but neither can they bring themselves to tell their partners the truth about their guests, setting the lies and entanglements in motion. Lucy passes Peter, a sign-language teacher, off as a cook, while Ole, a photographer, introduces Ina as a former model. The chaos escalates further with an intrusive postman, a notoriously clogged drain and the kitchen-philosophizing but inept cleaning company “Sisyphus,” as well as Ina’s pregnancy and, last but not least, two more unexpected guests who settle in: Lucy’s deaf sister Nellie and the melancholy Armin. She is heartbroken over bandleader Jim, while he is perpetually mourning his ex-wife. Amid all this confusion, the truth can no longer be concealed: Peter’s mushroom soup comes from a can, and Ina’s child is Ole’s. Lucy finally urges Ole to have an honest talk, while the other four grow a little closer. Afterwards, Lucy and Ole announce together that they are committing themselves to the truth and are therefore breaking up. Ina and Peter’s happiness lasts only a moment, because Lucy and Ole immediately confront them with the latest truth: they have slept together “one last time.” Betrayed in turn, the two lovers leave, Ina with Armin in tow, while Peter encounters Jim’s band at the bus stop. After the band’s big performance, at least Jim and Nellie end up happily in each other’s arms again.
