Full plot (contains spoilers)
The depressed Viktor is convinced that love does not exist and has made it his mission to convince everyone else of that, too. He runs into his school friend Otto again and, much to the displeasure of Otto’s girlfriend, Therese, temporarily moves in with him. There, he finds a copy of Don Quixote. That night, a man appears to him in his room and introduces himself as Don Quixote of Treuenbrietzen. Viktor now believes he has been chosen to become Don Quixote’s successor. The kind-hearted Otto agrees to become Viktor’s sidekick. Together, they steal romantic movies from a video store and try to convince a young woman not to get married. Meanwhile, Otto has problems of his own to solve. When he and Viktor stop an unhappy psychiatrist from committing suicide, the psychiatrist returns the favor by motivating Otto to take up his dream again and study medicine. Viktor, too, eventually gets back together with his former girlfriend, Klara.
