The story

A prison director and a computer specialist race to stop a virus targeting global navigation systems at the millennium.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

During his farewell party, prison director Hans Hagemann is told by inmate Thomas Rasch that, at the turn of the millennium, on January 1, 2000, at 12:00 a.m., all navigation systems will be infected by a malicious computer virus. The inmate also demands a ransom of 100 million euros for charitable causes and calls for his immediate release. Hagemann tries to stop the virus together with computer specialist Dan Corpening. Gradually, satellite communications fail in every time zone around the world. After a violent attack, Rasch says the password that will save them, and the ransom is transferred. This allows everyone on Earth to celebrate the millennium without worry. A short time later, Hagemann is also able to embrace his future wife and daughter, who had been left in distress at sea because satellite navigation was unavailable.
