Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film begins within the Şimşek family. The florist Enver Şimşek drives his Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van out to set up his flower stall beside a country road. This is where the story begun in the first part of the trilogy resumes: two masked men (Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt) open the Sprinter’s door and shoot Enver. He dies in the days that follow. The police investigation focuses mainly on the family and their circle. The crime is assumed to be a revenge killing. The police do not hesitate to apply pressure using false claims. Among other things, they tell Enver’s widow, Adile Şimşek, that her husband had a mistress. After a large amount of cash is found, they also cast her husband as a drug dealer. Adile seeks psychiatric treatment. Bronner takes over as the new investigator in place of Hegemann. He quickly notices inconsistencies in the existing theory about drug dealing. He succeeds in changing the direction of the investigation, which now focuses on a far-right murder. Semiya Şimşek gives an address at a funeral procession in Kassel concerning the series of murders. Later, she delivers a speech at the central memorial service for the victims on February 23, 2012, at the Konzerthaus Berlin.
