Full plot (contains spoilers)

The elegant and refined Count Claude du Plessis has booked a room in a luxury hotel and is assigned Room 12. While he is in the bathroom, a young woman gains entry to his room, accompanied by a shady adventurer. The man promptly steals the Count’s identity papers, enabling him to live and travel as Count du Plessis from then on. Expensive purchases are subsequently made in the real Count’s name, and the real du Plessis has to pay for them. The impostor’s audacity eventually goes so far that he marries the daughter of a wealthy doll manufacturer—once again, naturally, under the name Count Claude du Plessis. Meanwhile, the real Count has already contacted the police and is following his own trail, in a kind of private-detective mission. When he finally catches up with the impostor and meets “his wife” for the first time, the real Count soon falls in love with the woman who is, ultimately, a complete stranger to him. Things soon grow more and more chaotic: before long, the real Count is mistaken for the impostor and even moves into the impostor’s apartment. The comedy’s typically happy ending is not long in coming: despite all the trouble caused by the impostor, the double, and the crook, Claude du Plessis ends up with a wife—the Doll Queen—whom he finds it remarkably easy to fall in love with.
