Full plot (contains spoilers)
Cancer-stricken police officer Stefan Lindman is planning to spend a holiday in Mallorca with his partner and her daughter when he learns that his former colleague Herbert Molin has been murdered. The Mallorca trip is immediately called off, and Lindman travels to Sveg, where Molin had lived since retiring. Although the police in Sveg are anything but pleased that Lindman is getting involved in the investigation, he manages to gain the trust of the officer in charge, Giuseppe Larsson. Together, they discover that Herbert Molin was not actually called Molin, but had changed his name in the 1950s. Meanwhile, Molin’s daughter Veronika also arrives in Sveg to avenge her father’s death. They also discover that the strange bloodstains found in Molin’s house correspond to a particular sequence of tango steps. This clue leads them to dance instructor Elsa Berggren, at whose home Lindman finds an SS uniform during an illegal search. So he is not surprised when he finds documents beneath the floor of Molin’s house proving Molin’s connection to a far-right organisation called “For Sweden’s Good.” The Jewish man Fernando Hereira, who emigrated to Argentina, had also discovered this organisation. With the help of the violinist Andersson, Hereira tracked down Molin, who had murdered his father. That is why Hereira killed Molin—a fact that both Lindman and the killers from “For Sweden’s Good” have since learned. For this reason, Andersson is murdered too, and the police also suspect Hereira of this murder. He wants to prove his innocence by finding Andersson’s real killers. In the final sequence, it turns out that Veronika is also part of the organisation “For Sweden’s Good.” After a shootout with Stefan Lindman, she is arrested after being shot.
