After stealing a pearl necklace in Paris, con artist Olga flees toward Spain, and a police pursuit leads her to accept a lift from engineer Pierre.

The story

Con artist Olga steals a valuable pearl necklace from a Parisian jeweler and sets off in her sports car, intending to meet her accomplice Alexander in Spain. The police are already on her trail, and gendarmes recognize and pursue her in a small town. After a policeman’s shot hits her car’s rear wheel, Olga jumps out and lets the car plunge into a ravine. She then asks a young man for a lift, and engineer Pierre readily agrees.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The con artist Olga manages, through a trick, to relieve a Parisian jeweler of a valuable pearl necklace. Immediately afterward, she flees in her elegant sports car. Her accomplice manages to stall the robbed jeweler a little longer with a phone call. But at the police station, it becomes clear that they have fallen for a con. Olga intends to meet her accomplice Alexander in Spain, but the police are already on her trail. In a small town, gendarmes recognize her and pursue her on their motorcycles. A policeman’s shot hits the rear wheel of her car. Coolly, Olga jumps out and lets the car plunge into the ravine, where it crashes and burns. She herself asks a young man to give her a lift for part of the way. Engineer Pierre is only too happy to oblige. Meanwhile, the police investigation reveals that only the car burned, and that the thief is therefore still at large. A suitcase found at the wreck points to its manufacturer, a shop in Biarritz. There, they learn that a certain Countess Beaumont bought two such suitcases. The police have one; the other is with the young engineer, a keepsake from a lovely sailing trip with the stranger, who had managed to get away in Spanish territory after staging an argument. Once again, she escapes arrest. Her accomplice Alexander also manages to elude the authorities. Olga, alias Countess Beaumont, falls in love with the young engineer, and the two spend two lovely days in idyllic Aranjuez. Alexander is furious about his accomplice’s unprofessional behavior and calls her to order. But Olga is unwilling to give up her new love and goes with Pierre, who does not know she is a criminal, to a folk festival. Alexander, intent on getting the pearls into his possession, follows his “derelict” accomplice. The police are on his trail once again, and this time they succeed in arresting the criminal duo. Pierre now learns the truth about his sweetheart and is left alone. The dream of happiness has been shattered.
