Full plot (contains spoilers)
Bavaria, sometime in the Middle Ages: The robber knight Archibald is a rough-and-tumble bruiser who is never averse to a fight. One day, his prince, Sigurd, asks him for help: Archibald is to join him on a crusade. Before setting off, Archibald—who doesn’t entirely trust his fair wife—seizes the opportunity to buy a whole stack of chastity belts from Aurelio, a traveling and rather shady merchant from the southern lands. After all, if he has to take up the sword, he wants to be sure of the fidelity of his women: not only his wife, but also his mistress and his daughter. So it is done. Archibald goes on crusade … and in the meantime, his stately castle becomes a “thrusting castle.” For a resourceful locksmith, who is actually an ex-con, knows how to pick many a lock—in this case, a chastity belt—and win the treasure chests of the fair ladies. But war is not all Archibald has on his mind, since Sigurd enables him to make quite a few conquests at his own castle. In side stories, Archibald’s daughter Gudrun says she will marry only when a suitor can solve three impossible riddles, though she later proves surprisingly flexible in how she applies this rule; the lovelorn Archibald must exercise the ius primae noctis on the virgin Adelaide; Archibald’s food taster repeatedly suffers asthma attacks while carrying out his duties; and the squires Bert and Kuni bungle their way through the story.
