Since there were only three women ministers during the existence of the GDR, Körner inevitably had to broaden his focus to find enough female protagonists. To do so, he used the “Wander method,” just as Maxie Wander had asked women about their personal experiences and used these interviews as the basis for her book Good Morning, Beautiful One, from which the subtitle is also borrowed. In the film, the following women talk about growing up and living in the GDR: former Potsdam mayor Brunhilde Hanke (1930–2024), former LPG chair Solveig Leo (born 1943), DEFA assistant director Barbara Mädler (born 1943), historian Annette Leo (born 1948), painter Doris Ziegler (born 1949), behavioral biologist Marina Grasse (born 1950), writer Katja Lange-Müller (born 1951; daughter of Politburo candidate Inge Lange), punk and writer Gabriele Stötzer (born 1953), peace activist Ulrike Poppe (born 1953), actress Katrin Sass (born 1956), former drummer for the all-female band Mona Lise, Tina Powileit (born 1959), former metallurgist at the Maxhütte steelworks Katrin Seyfarth (born 1962), comic artist Anke Feuchtenberger (born 1963), dental assistant Kerstin Bienert (born 1969), and curator Amrei Bauer (born 1969; daughter of painter Annemirl Bauer).
