The story
Markus Schuster, a fashion-industry worker, and his secretary and new partner, Viktoria Vogt, are vacationing on Croatia’s Istrian coast. Their quiet holiday is disrupted by Maniche, a hitchhiker fleeing after being raped by an older man. Viktoria takes her in for the night at their villa, despite Markus’s objections. He doubts Maniche’s story and tries to make her leave, even paying her to go because he suspects she wants to exploit his position in the fashion industry. As Viktoria continues to stand up for Maniche, tensions grow between the couple.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The newly in-love couple Markus Schuster and his secretary, Viktoria Vogt, are vacationing in Croatia. Markus is eager to unwind from his work in the fashion industry and enjoy his love by the coast of Istria. But their peaceful time together is interrupted first by the hitchhiker Maniche and then by their voyeuristic neighbor. After Maniche is raped by an older man, she is on the run. Viktoria takes care of her and lets her stay overnight at the villa against Markus’s wishes. Markus repeatedly tries to drive her away because he does not believe her story; he even pays her to leave, believing she only wants to exploit his position in the fashion industry. But Viktoria keeps standing up for her. Unexpectedly, Maniche tells Markus that she is his daughter. He is surprised and lets her stay with him. He claims that he once slept with a woman he met at a club where he worked as a DJ. Shortly afterward, Maniche invites her friend Elodie to the villa. Elodie grew up in the same foster home as Maniche. Markus is angry with Maniche’s mother. He cannot understand how she could have given Maniche up for adoption, and sees it as the reason for her strange behavior. Wanting to do better than her mother, he allows the two girls to throw a wild party at his estate. But after a night of heavy drinking and revelry, he wakes up naked beside the also completely naked Elodie the next morning and cannot remember anything. He apologizes to Viktoria and proposes to her. But it was all a plan to get revenge on Markus. Viktoria is actually Maniche’s mother, and Markus raped her back then. Now she wants revenge. The women have captured him and torture him with electric shocks. Then they plan to throw him into the electrified pool. But Viktoria spares his life by setting a timer so that the pool will not be electrified until later. Markus flees, utterly confused. Meanwhile, Viktoria is surprised by the mentally disturbed neighbor. He accuses her of destroying his marriage. The neighbor had recorded hours of footage of Viktoria and Markus so he could show it to his wife, who suffers from a light allergy and had been unable to leave the house for six months. Over the course of the film, Viktoria had discovered this and confronted the neighbor and his wife, after which the neighbor’s wife deleted all the videotapes. Now the neighbor wants to throw Viktoria into the pool. But Viktoria manages to free herself and pushes him to his death instead. Markus has witnessed everything. However, he covers for Viktoria and Maniche, telling the police only that there has been a terrible accident. Markus stays behind as mother and daughter drive away in a convertible.
