Full plot (contains spoilers)

As children, Jessica and her younger sister Sophie had to watch as burglars murdered their parents. Jessica swore to Sophie then that she would always look after her. For the grown-up Jessica, this promise became an obsession, leading to paranoia and delusions. Her younger sister, by contrast, wants to leave the past behind and devote herself entirely to playing the piano. When the sisters learn that the perpetrators are due to be released from prison after twenty years, the resulting tension leads to an argument, and Jessica is killed in a car accident. The memory of the deceased Jessica brings Sophie to the brink of schizophrenia. Sophie is possessed by the ghost of her dead sister and resolves to avenge her parents’ deaths. At the end of the film, it is revealed that it was Sophie, not Jessica, who died in the accident. Jessica is the one who survived, with a split personality into which Sophie has been integrated.
