A former Army Ranger with PTSD must escort his fallen friend's aggressive military dog across the country to a funeral.

The story

Jackson Briggs, a former U.S. Army Ranger suffering from PTSD, is deemed unfit for service due to a brain injury. After learning of his friend Riley Rodriguez's death, Briggs is assigned a special task: escorting Riley's military dog, Lulu, a female Belgian Malinois with a history of aggressive behavior, to a funeral in Nogales, Arizona. Initially hesitant, Briggs agrees to the journey when his former commander promises a recommendation for a rotation position. The journey becomes complicated as Lulu's military training and anxiety lead to various conflicts along the road, forcing Briggs to navigate personal struggles and the challenges of bonding with the high-strung animal.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Jackson Briggs, a former U.S. Army Ranger with PTSD, is tasked with escorting Riley Rodriguez's military dog, Lulu, to a funeral in Nogales, Arizona, with the ultimate goal of euthanizing her at White Sands. During the trip, Lulu escapes her cage and destroys the interior of Briggs's 1984 Ford Bronco. After various incidents—including being locked out of a house in Portland and being tranquilized at a marijuana farm—Briggs begins to bond with Lulu. He even cons his way into a luxury hotel in San Francisco, where Lulu attacks a man, leading to Briggs's arrest. After seeking help from a former Ranger who rehabilitated Lulu's brother, Briggs learns to bond with her. They eventually reach the funeral on time. Despite being told the decision to euthanize Lulu is final, Briggs is moved by her progress. After a panic attack in a motel, he realizes he cannot leave her. He returns to her, and months later, he successfully adopts her, reconciling with his family and fellow veterans.
