The story
Eighteen-year-old Angela, newly orphaned, sets out for Rome hoping to make her fortune. On the way, she meets Mrs. Rocchi, a brothel keeper who invites her to travel with her, intending to push Angela into prostitution. Angela also falls in love with Rocco, a thief wanted by the law. The setup places Angela between a predatory offer and a new romance as she arrives in search of a future.

Angela, a beautiful eighteen-year-old girl who has just been orphaned, sets off for Rome in search of her fortune. During the journey, she meets Mrs. Rocchi, the keeper of a brothel, who invites her to come along in an effort to push her into prostitution. Angela then falls in love with Rocco, a thief wanted by the law, but later marries an elderly, wealthy duke. Widowed after their very first night of marriage, she is then able to enjoy the inheritance together with her Rocco.
