The story

A book-obsessed country gentleman sets out to revive the age of wandering knights.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

A Spanish proverb says that a lark hoping to fly over La Mancha must bring provisions. Long ago, in this region, there lived a poor country gentleman, Don Quixote, with his old housekeeper and his niece. He spent almost all his time reading chivalric romances, and became so absorbed in what he read that he forgot to look after his estate. All this reading, combined with keeping late hours, took such a toll on his brain that it impaired his sound judgment, and his head was literally full of battles and love affairs, sorcery and all sorts of follies, just as in the romances. Then one day he gets an idea. He imagines that, for the sake of his honor and his homeland, he must restore the order of the wandering knights, and that, as a member of this order, he must set out on horseback in full armor to have adventures and fight for justice.
