A small-town shopkeeper’s trip to a health resort turns into an awkward entanglement with a Munich massage parlor.

The story

Mr. Blümlein, a somewhat dim-witted shopkeeper from the Bavarian countryside, is sent by his wife Rosa to a health resort because of his slipped disc. During a stopover in Munich, he visits the Annette Massage Parlor, where the women offering “very special massages” initially let him misunderstand what the establishment is. Masseuse Lisa takes him—and his checkbook—home for a well-paid encounter. But Annette, the salon’s owner, and her lover, known as the Count, object to their employees making money on the side, putting Blümlein’s detour at odds with the parlor’s rules.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Mr. Blümlein is a slightly dim-witted small-town shopkeeper from the Bavarian countryside. Because his slipped disc is bothering him, his wife Rosa puts him on a train and sends him to a health resort. During a stopover in Munich, he visits the “Annette Massage Parlor.” The women who provide very special massages do not initially correct his misunderstanding. Masseuse Lisa takes Mr. Blümlein, checkbook and all, home with her for a well-paid tryst. But the salon’s owner, Annette, and her lover, known as “the Count,” do not look kindly on their girls earning extra money on the side. Among the establishment’s regular customers are Rasputin and Dr. Fummel, a passionate voyeur. The Italian Hugo wants to get his girlfriend a job with the Count and gives her striptease lessons with great enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the Count personally inspects two new girls. Eventually, the whole colorful company throws a sex party outside the city. Mr. Blümlein fears his quarrelsome wife will arrive and follows Lisa to the countryside. He finds none of the wild goings-on to his liking, unlike Dr. Fummel, who is perched in a tree outside the window, watching everything through binoculars. A portly transvestite charms the butler. When Blümlein finally boards the train home, his salvation, he is utterly exhausted.
