Du bist dran (2013)

Peter can endure his unsatisfying role as an unemployed furniture restorer burdened by feelings of inferiority, and as the father of two children, only by fatalistically lapsing into cynical, self-deprecating remarks every other sentence. Whatever the situation—whether dealing with his father, who is trying to come to terms with the recent death of his wife in the company of Inge, a former employee and a considerably younger woman, or organizing everyday life with his wife Elisabeth, who works in development aid and confidently emphasizes her own strengths—frustration, awkwardness, and morbidity always shape what he does next. A two-year trip to Nairobi, planned by Elisabeth and her boss, plunges the young parents into a deep relationship crisis.
