The story
In a mining settlement, gendarmes harshly punish those who smuggle gold or steal. The tavern keeper provides lodging to miners who dare to descend deep underground in search of precious metal, alongside a charming young woman. Mârza, a young miner, falls in love with her, and she seems to return his feelings. The woman is being used as bait, setting their apparent romance against the dangers of the mining settlement.

The story takes place in a mining settlement. Those who smuggle gold or steal are harshly punished by the gendarmes who pursue them. The tavern keeper (Eliza Pietrăchescu) provides lodging for miners who dare to descend deep underground in search of the precious metal, along with a charming young woman. A young miner named Mârza falls in love with the woman who is used as bait, and it seems that she is in love with him too. Meanwhile, the tavern keeper and the waiter decide to kill him, just as the tavern keeper had done with other young men. As he is returning from the mine, he is killed. The girl reappears at the window, combing her silky hair, and is admired by another young man who takes Mârza’s place.
