The story
A mummy is struck by lightning and comes to life, then ends up living with Goos and Goos’s father, Klaas Guts, and becomes friends with Goos. To explain his bandages to the outside world, they pretend Dummie has been burned, though he no longer feels pain. Dummie goes to school with Goos and always wears a scarab. When he loses it at school, Anna-Lies, a girl who often bullies him, finds it and keeps it, leaving Dummie without the object he always wears.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
A mummy is struck by lightning and comes to life. He ends up with Goos and his father, Klaas Guts (Goos’s mother has died), and becomes friends with Goos. They pretend to the outside world that Dummie has been burned (but no longer feels any pain) and is therefore completely wrapped in bandages. Dummie also goes to school with Goos. He always wears a scarab. One day, he loses it at school, and Anna-Lies, a girl who often bullies him, finds it and keeps it. Because of the scarab’s magical power, both Dummie and Anna-Lies become seriously ill. Once the scarab is returned, they both recover quickly, even though Dummie already seems to be dead.
