A young playwright with no new work to show promises a famous actor a play that exists only as a title.
The story
In 1897 Paris, young Edmond Rostand has gone two years without writing anything. Hoping to secure a role for the famous actor Constant Coquelin, he offers him a part in a new play. But the play does not yet exist: Rostand has only settled on its title, Cyrano de Bergerac. The plot description establishes the gap between Rostand’s promise and what he has actually written, setting up the initial challenge of bringing the unwritten work into being.
