The story

Martin, a university student from a well-to-do family, is diagnosed with testicular cancer, threatening the orderly and successful life he has led. Unwilling to risk his ability to get an erection, he begins three months of chemotherapy. During treatment, he forms an increasingly close friendship with his unusual roommates, Nickel and Harry, who are also cancer patients. Susanne, another patient with cancer, joins their circle. Their bond leads the four to make an audacious plan concerning Martin’s testicle, which had been removed and sent to pathology.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Martin, a university student from a well-to-do family, is diagnosed with testicular cancer. The diagnosis threatens to derail the ordered and successful life he has led until now. Unwilling to risk his ability to get an erection, he begins three months of chemotherapy. During this time, an increasingly close friendship develops between him and his unusual roommates, Nickel and Harry, who are also cancer patients. Susanne, who has cancer too, completes their friendship. On a bet, the four decide to retrieve Martin’s “stolen” testicle, since it still belongs to him. After they steal it from pathology and bury it in front of the hospital, Nickel collapses and dies shortly afterward. Susanne’s condition also worsens steadily, and she eventually dies in intensive care. For the time being, only Martin and Harry survive their cancer.
