The story
Linda Rosenau is the busy editor-in-chief of a nationwide women’s magazine and has little time for her daughter, Leonie, or Leonie’s triplets. When Leonie has to go to hospital after a bout of weakness, Linda must look after the children. Leonie has recently been left by her partner, who learned the triplets were conceived during a one-night stand. Unable to find their father, Linda enlists their grandfather, recently retired teacher Jakob Buchmann, to help. Meanwhile, the magazine’s new owners want layoffs and content cuts, and have sent Arne Hansen to carry them out. Linda resists and fights for her staff.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Linda Rosenau is the successful editor-in-chief of Marlene, a women’s magazine with nationwide circulation. She is constantly on the go and practically lives for her job. As a result, she has little to no time for her daughter Leonie and her triplets. Even when Leonie asks for help, Linda brushes her off. Only when Leonie has to go to the hospital after a bout of weakness does Linda have no choice but to look after the children. Leonie has just been left by her partner, Patrick, who had discovered that the children were not his, but were conceived during a one-night stand. Linda cannot track down their father, but she can at least enlist the children’s grandfather, Dr. Jakob Buchmann, a teacher who has just retired, to help supervise his grandchildren. The Latin teacher really wants only to leave Germany and spend his retirement in Canada. Instead, he has to stay overnight in Linda’s loft to look after his grandchildren. What’s worse, her Anglicisms and superficiality annoy him. Linda, meanwhile, has little experience with children and can think only about her magazine. And just now, problems are piling up. The new owners want to lay off several journalists and cut back on content to increase their returns. They have sent Arne Hansen, just the man for the job. He thinks only about numbers and has no interest in people’s personal circumstances. But Linda resists the new demands and fights for her staff. Jakob supports her, too. She sees how touchingly he cares for his grandchildren, and the two grow closer emotionally. When they visit Leonie in the hospital with the children, they discover their father there. Thomas had been travelling, had an accident, and is now waking from a coma to find himself face to face with his three children. But after the initial shock and argument, not only Linda and Jakob but also Leonie and Thomas manage to come together.
