The grumpy widower Walter Adler spends his days in Regensburg reviewing restaurants and keeping company with his loyal dog. But when he runs into his childhood sweetheart, Alice Olsen, his life takes an unexpected turn. Forty years after he unsuccessfully proposed to her, a second chance at love presents itself. To finally win over Alice, who teaches art at the University of Regensburg, he enrolls as a visiting student in her seminar. As a result, he is challenged not only by Alice but also by a generation of students with whom, at first glance, he has nothing in common. Although Walter’s circumstances, interests, and habits differ greatly from those of the students, they seek his company and increasingly include him in their activities.
