Ein Kuckuckskind der Liebe (2005)

Anabel, who owns an antiques shop, is generally happy in her marriage to Dirk, who is financially independent. They live in a wonderful old apartment, and the only thing missing is a child. Despite many attempts, they simply cannot conceive. It turns out that Dirk is biologically unable to father children. But rather than tell her husband, Anabel lets him continue believing that it is her fault they cannot have a child. A friend advises her to pass off another man’s child as Dirk’s, since he would surely never notice. At first Anabel is not especially convinced, but she eventually decides to travel to Mallorca with her friend and get pregnant by one of the many handsome men there. Once they arrive, however, Anabel finds that the men only hit on her with vulgar lines. She decides this will not work. She is determined to have a child, but at least the conception should have some class. She later abandons the plan altogether and returns to Berlin with her friend. By chance, back in Berlin, a man at a bar persistently flirts with her. When her acquaintance Clemens realizes that the advances are making her uncomfortable, he steps between Anabel and the pushy bar patron. Clemens gets caught up in a fight and sustains a bleeding wound. As she gives him makeshift first aid afterward, she becomes involved in a love affair with him and they have sex. Days later, when Anabel visits her gynecologist, she learns that she is pregnant. Only then does she realize what else had been missing from her marriage to Dirk. At this point, she has to decide whether to follow her friend’s advice.
