Full plot (contains spoilers)

Pia Beck, from Germany, and John Harrison Cooper, a New Zealander, met six months earlier during a stopover at Amsterdam Airport on their way home. There, they promised to meet again in six months, at 12:00 noon, at the Rock of Gibraltar. Six months later, Pia is in Spain, but arrives at the agreed meeting place four hours late because of a flight delay. John is no longer there to meet her. Disappointed, Pia wonders what to do next. She is in luck, in a way: Flora Martinez, the taxi driver who brought her to the meeting place, offers to take her along to a wedding celebration in Cádiz, where Flora is supposed to dance flamenco for the bride and groom, who are friends of hers. Pia gladly accepts. At the wedding, she meets the attractive Diego-Maria Navarro, who is performing as Flora’s flamenco dance partner. The two quickly strike up a conversation and arrange to take a trip together to various sights in Andalusia. Pia also learns about Diego’s social activism: he helps poor families threatened with eviction by the corrupt city administration. When they risk being caught by the police in the middle of the night while changing door locks, Pia and Diego share their first kiss. They have another date the next day. But when Pia is alone for a while, she unexpectedly runs into John, who has come from New Zealand and had waited for her at the agreed meeting place on time, leaving her in a difficult position. Both men attract her greatly, each in his own way: John, the down-to-earth businessman, and Diego, the adventurous free spirit. In the end, however, Pia knows that her heart belongs to Diego, with whom she wants to build a future. John, too, will continue to play a part in her life, since she will work with him professionally. He builds sailboats, and Pia’s love of architecture and art (she abandoned her art studies after her mother’s death because her father needed her at his lamp company) offers them both unforeseen opportunities. And it also looks as though Flora and John may become a couple, since Flora impulsively decides to accompany him on his trip to Marseille after kissing him on the platform.
