The story

Divorced Monika Bach receives a trip to Scotland from her mother, Gertrud. She spent time there as an exchange student 30 years earlier and remembers it fondly, but the bus tour with her mother and a group of retirees is not to her liking. When she gets the opportunity, Monika leaves the group to follow a clue toward Angus Sinclair, her first love, who has remained in her thoughts. On the way she meets Richard Travis, a globetrotting landscape photographer, and then encounters Angus again, now a successful figure in the whisky industry. Monika must consider her feelings for the two men as well as her mother, who has lived alone since her husband died.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Monika Bach, who is divorced from her husband, is given a trip to Scotland by her mother, Gertrud. Monika had already spent time in the country 30 years earlier as an exchange student, and still remembers it fondly. Unfortunately, travelling on a bus that is full of retirees as well as her mother proves less than pleasant for Monika. When she gets the chance, she leaves the tour group and sets off on her own to look for a clue that will lead her to her first love: back then, Monika met Angus Sinclair, who has never been out of her thoughts since. Along the way, she meets Richard Travis, a globetrotter and landscape photographer, and almost at the same time she also finds her old love Angus again, who has since become a successful man in the whisky industry. Suddenly, after her divorce, Monika has to choose between two attractive men—and, not least, her mother, who has lived alone since her husband’s death. At first, Monika is troubled by a guilty conscience: she does not want to leave her mother to travel back alone, so she decides to return home with the tour group. However, on the day of departure, she changes her mind, even though her bags are already packed. She wants to stay in Scotland. Although Monika had not expected it, her mother is very understanding. The drive back in her car leads her to Richard, whom she ultimately chose.
