Full plot (contains spoilers)
Harriet is a middle-aged woman who just can’t seem to succeed. Things aren’t working out at her job, and she isn’t having much luck with men either. So Harriet decides to end her life with sleeping pills. Her last words are: “I would give my soul to be a man.” The Devil hears this and makes Harriet the following offer: he will turn her into a man if she gives him her soul. The next morning, Harriet goes to the bathroom and realizes that something crucial has changed. She is now a man and henceforth calls herself Harry. Suddenly, everything comes more easily to Harry: he advances in his career, and he has extraordinary success with women, too. Even her best friend Katharina forgets that Harry is really her friend Harriet. But in time, Harriet grows tired of being a man. She asks the Devil to undo their deal. The Devil agrees, and Harry becomes Harriet again. At the end of the film, Harriet and Michael get together.
