Full plot (contains spoilers)
Felix Winterberg is the illegitimate great-great-grandson of the famous physicist Albert Einstein and is himself a gifted physicist. The physics professor, nicknamed Einstein, suffers from the hereditary disease Huntington’s chorea. It is highly likely that he will not live to see his 40th birthday. To keep advancing his research in the time he has left, Winterberg works up to 21 hours a day and takes various illegal stimulants. He has already been arrested several times by the police for drug abuse. To avoid going to prison, Winterberg strikes a deal with the Bochum homicide squad. As an “external consultant,” he is to assist the officers with a murder in the drug scene. After initial difficulties with the investigating detective, Elena Lange, they manage to find the murderer. At the end of the film, it turns out that Detective Marc Weigert has been taking drugs ever since his wife died.
