A young woman without magical gifts must save her family's enchanted home when their magic begins to fade.
The story
The Madrigals are a multigenerational Colombian family living in a rural community called the Encanto. Each member, except for Mirabel, has been blessed with a magical gift from a miracle. When Mirabel discovers that the family's magic is beginning to fade and the enchanted house, Casita, is cracking, she must navigate the complexities of her family's traditions and secrets. To save their home and their magic, she embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind the fading miracle and find a way to restore the family's power before it is lost forever.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a miracle granted their family magical gifts, the Madrigals live in a sentient house called Casita. Fifty years after the miracle, the family thrives, but Mirabel is the only one without a gift. When she notices the magic is fading, she seeks help from her family members and eventually finds her estranged uncle, Bruno, who has the power of precognition. Mirabel discovers that the family's reliance on the miracle and the pressure of maintaining their roles has caused the magic to falter. After a confrontation with her grandmother, Alma, Mirabel realizes that the family's expectations are the true source of the strain. Alma reconciles with Mirabel and Bruno, and together they work to rebuild Casita and restore the family's gifts, ultimately finding a balance between their magic and their true selves.
