Full plot (contains spoilers)
In December 1999, insurance investigator Virginia "Gin" Baker suspects world-class thief Robert "Mac" MacDougal of stealing a Rembrandt and is assigned to investigate. Mac confronts her in London, where Gin poses as a thief needing his help to steal a Chinese mask from Bedford Palace. They train at his Scottish castle, where Gin confesses to stealing the Rembrandt and Mac reveals he intercepted it. Gin secretly plans to entrap Mac, but they proceed with the Bedford Palace heist. After stealing the mask, Mac threatens Gin, who claims her job is a cover. Gin then reveals a plan to infiltrate the International Clearance Bank in the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur during a 30-second millennium bug system shutdown to siphon $8 billion. During the heist, they evade security and Mac forces Gin to escape with a parachute. The next morning, Mac meets Gin at a station with Aaron Thibadeaux, who reveals himself as an FBI agent. Mac confesses he was arrested two years prior and was given a deal to entrap Gin. He reveals he has fallen in love with her, surrenders $7 billion to the FBI, and gives Gin a gun and documents to escape. Gin feigns holding him at gunpoint and escapes on a train, only to reappear at the station to reunite with Mac, proposing their next heist.
