The story
EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is a documentary film that explores the life and performance of Elvis Presley. Utilizing a vast collection of restored and synchronized footage, including previously unseen material from the Warner Bros. archives, the film aims to provide a unique look at the artist. Luhrmann describes the project as a unique entry in the Elvis canon that highlights both the magnitude of his performance and the deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film is constructed from sixty-eight boxes of 35mm and 8mm footage discovered in the Warner Bros. archives, including outtakes and a 1957 'gold jacket' performance. These clips were restored and synced to audio sources over two years. Additionally, a 45-minute audio recording of Presley discussing his life story was uncovered and incorporated into the film. The production serves as a follow-up to Luhrmann's 2022 biopic, intended to showcase the 'offstage and onstage' aspects of the performer.
