Et la lumière fut (1989)

The film recounts, in an almost documentary style, the story of an African village threatened by deforestation. The tone shifts from comic to more serious as the often surreal adventures give way to more dramatic problems, such as a marital crisis or the eventual destruction of the huts. Nevertheless, as usual, Iosseliani retains his sarcastic detachment, appearing at the end as a tourist observing the deserted village from a distance.
