The story

Larry and Joan, an argumentative elderly couple married for 65 years, attend a family gender reveal party where Joan's terminal illness is kept secret. After Larry suddenly dies at the party, he awakens in a transitional afterlife space called the Junction. There, he meets an Afterlife Coordinator who informs him that he must choose a specific themed eternity to inhabit within seven days. As he navigates this new realm, he learns that his choices are final and that he must decide where he wants to spend forever, while simultaneously, Joan arrives at the Junction and faces her own choice between her two husbands.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After Larry dies at a party, he enters the Junction and chooses a beach-themed eternity, leaving a note for Joan. Joan arrives at the Junction and is presented with two options: a mountain-themed eternity with her first husband, Luke, or the beach-themed one with Larry. She is allowed to sample both. During her time in the mountains, she sees her life with Larry in the Archives and realizes his love is deeper than the idealized past with Luke. Despite Luke's attempts to keep her in the mountains, she eventually chooses to leave for a Paris-themed eternity with a friend. However, she eventually realizes she prefers her life with Larry. After a series of complications and a realization that Larry stayed behind at the Junction to wait for her, the two finally reunite and enter a shared eternity that reflects their life together on Earth.
