The story
After selling a villa in Vilnius without its owner’s knowledge, con man Fabian Kurtz flees and disguises himself as a photographer to join a wedding party travelling to a remote villa. Fallen trees block the only road there, leaving the guests cut off. The bride’s aunt, Nikola, promises Milva a valuable, ancient ivory sculpture as a wedding gift but keeps its whereabouts secret. Fabian sets out to find it and sabotages the group’s phone and Wi-Fi. When Milva is taken to the garden pavilion by a friend, Fabian poses as a BKA officer supposedly sent to seize the sculpture as looted art.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The con man Fabian Kurtz sells a villa in Vilnius without the owner's knowledge, taking a large cash deposit. When he is exposed, he flees on foot from the swindled buyer's henchman. Disguised as a photographer, he manages to join a wedding party travelling by bus to a remote villa belonging to the bride's aunt. On the way, trees topple behind the bus, blocking the only road leading to the villa. The art-loving aunt, Nikola, promises the bride, Milva, a special wedding gift: a valuable, 40,000-year-old ivory sculpture, the Venus of Wildenfeld (modeled on the Venus of Willendorf), which has been in the family for four generations. She does not reveal when or where she will give it to the bride. The con man sets out to find it and sabotages the phone and Wi-Fi. The bride is “kidnapped” by her friend and taken to the garden pavilion. The con man now passes himself off as Fabian Kurtz from the BKA, who is supposedly there to seize the Venus as looted art. Shortly afterwards, Nikola's body is found in the pavilion. She appears to have been stabbed with a pair of scissors. Milva has disappeared, as has the Venus. Fabian is now expected to solve the events; he begins watching and questioning those present. Although he is exposed as a con man, he manages to uncover that Nikola's scheming lover Kim drugged her and Milva with spiked sparkling wine and took the Venus. She hid it with Milva; Milva's father-in-law, Gerhard, took it from her room, and her father, Armin, took it from him. Milva's brother Lukas, who uses a wheelchair, then took it from Armin's suitcase. It turns out to be nothing but a worthless plaster copy. Fabian exposes Ewwa, Lukas's daytime companion, as Nikola's murderer. She is in fact Nikola's stepdaughter and took revenge on her for the way she treated her father, who drank himself to death. In the end, Fabian finds the Venus, stows it in his suitcase, and rides away across a lake on a snowmobile. After a short time, the ice gives way beneath the vehicle.
