An anthology film. Emmanuelle, the Frenchwoman, is a Catholic bourgeois woman. She is married and has one child, then two, then three. She suffers a nervous breakdown, and her husband refuses any form of contraception. When she has their fourth child, she decides to sleep in a separate room, even though she loves him... Gerda, the German woman, is neglected by her husband, a senior executive too busy with his business affairs. She leaves him to live with a lover, but her best friend is her rival. She decides to return to her husband, who is waiting for her because he loves her... Sandy, the American woman, is walking down the street when she meets a young man beside a computer offering matches with an ideal partner. She talks with him, and neither of them believes in the computer's matchmaking. The young man takes her to his room, where, although they are very different, they fall in love... Ingrid, the Swedish woman, influenced by the atmosphere of sexual freedom around her, gives herself to a young man a little too quickly, but he rejects her. Ingrid tries to console herself with carefree young men, then returns to ask the first man to forgive her and to marry her, because she loves him...
