A group of intelligent teenagers gain uncontrollable superhuman abilities after an experiment with a transdimensional portal goes wrong.
The story
Childhood friends Reed Richards and Ben Grimm work on a prototype teleporter for years, eventually gaining the attention of Professor Franklin Storm at the Baxter Foundation. Reed is recruited to join the team, which includes Storm's children, Sue and Johnny. During an unsanctioned voyage through a 'Quantum Gate' to a dimension known as Planet Zero, the group is exposed to otherworldly substances. The resulting explosion alters the four individuals on a genetic level, granting them various superhuman abilities. They are subsequently taken into government custody to be studied and have their new powers tested while Reed seeks a way to reverse the changes.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After an explosion at the Quantum Gate, Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben gain superhuman abilities and are detained by the government. One year later, Reed is a fugitive using a suit to control his stretching abilities. He is eventually captured by the military and taken to Area 57. There, he is forced to help rebuild the Quantum Gate. During a mission to Planet Zero, they discover Victor Von Doom, who has been fused to his suit and gained telekinetic powers. Doom, believing Earth must be destroyed to protect his new home, kills the scientists and returns to Planet Zero. The four heroes pursue him through a portal. After a battle, Ben dismembers Doom into the portal's energy beam while Johnny closes the gate. The group is then rewarded with a base called 'Central City' and adopts the name 'Fantastic Four'.
