Full plot (contains spoilers)
Twenty-eight-year-old law graduate Vivian Baumann is burned out. Her job and her relationship are making her feel trapped, and she needs a break. Her energetic father takes her to an island for the weekend so she can unwind. After arriving, Vivi feels overwhelmed by her father’s advice about self-improvement and positive thinking during the vacation he has arranged for her. Vivi begins exploring the island and befriends its residents. She takes a temporary job at the researcher Otto’s shop and settles into the guest room at the home of Biene, a single mother, and her thirteen-year-old son, Eric. When Biene spontaneously leaves the house one day, Vivi finds herself alone among unfamiliar children and immersed in life on the island.
