The story
On New Year's Eve 2019, Natalie and her partner Maya invite their circle of friends to celebrate in a small gathering. The lively evening soon exposes tensions among them: Ellen, who is single, is having an affair with Sebastian, who is married to their friend Eva. Maya wants a child, but Natalie is not yet ready. Mareike is struggling with her marriage to Adam, while her brother Rolf is still looking for a partner.

New Year's Eve 2019. Natalie and her partner Maya have invited their circle of friends to celebrate the New Year together in a small gathering. What initially seems like a lively evening among friends soon reveals the first tensions: single Ellen is having an affair with Sebastian, who is married to Eva, another friend in the group. Maya wants a child, but free spirit Natalie does not yet feel ready for one. Mareike, meanwhile, is struggling with her marriage to Adam. Her brother Rolf is still looking for a partner. Over the next three years, the group regularly gets together for other occasions such as birthdays, weddings, christenings, and summer vacations. Relationships form or fall apart, children are born, life plans change, and people go their separate ways. A severe personal tragedy eventually brings some of the group back together and once again reminds them how fleeting life is.
