The story

Andréa welcomes her children to the family property in Lot-et-Garonne for a birthday celebration with her husband, Jean. Younger son Romain arrives with Rosita, his new Spanish fiancée, while Vincent goes to collect their older half-sister Claire, who has returned after living in the United States for three years. Claire’s arrival revives old family tensions. She needs money and demands a share of the inheritance that paid for the home, hoping to fund a vegan guesthouse in Portugal. As the family gathers, conflicting plans and unresolved disputes threaten the reunion Andréa had hoped to enjoy.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Andréa (Catherine Deneuve) eagerly awaits the arrival of her children, whom she has invited to celebrate her birthday with her husband, Jean, at their magnificent property in Lot-et-Garonne. Romain (Vincent Macaigne), the younger child, is an artist—a photographer and filmmaker—and a little eccentric. He arrives with Rosita, his charming new Spanish fiancée. Vincent (Cédric Kahn), the wealthiest and most stable member of the family, goes to pick up their older half-sister Claire (Emmanuelle Bercot), who is from their father’s first marriage and had gone to live in the United States for three years. Her reappearance throws the family into turmoil and rekindles old tensions. The young woman, who has bipolar disorder, needs money and is determined to take what she is owed. Since the family home was paid for with an inheritance from her father’s family after her father died, she demands her share of the inheritance so she can start a vegan guesthouse in Portugal with her Swiss friend, whom she met in the United States. She brings in Fabien, a real-estate agent, to value the family home. When Romain tries to drive Rosita, who wants to leave, back to the train station, he has a car accident in his brother’s car and asks his brother to pay for it. Claire announces that she wants to stay at her mother’s house for a while so she can remain close to her daughter Emma, whom Andréa and Jean have been raising for the past three years. But Emma announces that if her mother stays, she will leave the house. Andréa, who had been looking forward to bringing everyone together, watches her family bicker and fall apart during her birthday meal.
