A priest trying to rescue vulnerable girls from prostitution and their pimps faces a Marseille gangster, with help from a bartender whose fiancée is caught in the same underworld.
The story
In the Marseille metropolitan area in 1957, Father Hermann, a former Foreign Legionnaire, devotes himself to keeping vulnerable girls away from prostitution and freeing those already controlled by pimps. He has established a refuge for them, but his efforts bring him into conflict with Charly, a gangster and pimp who profits from exploiting the girls. When the bartender Paul joins the struggle, the priest gains an ally with a personal stake: Paul’s fiancée, Néda, has fallen into Charly’s hands. Father Hermann’s work has seemed to be a losing battle, but this new alliance offers a chance to challenge Charly’s influence.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The Marseille metropolitan area, 1957. The sincere Father Hermann, who once served in the Foreign Legion, does everything in his power to keep the girls—especially vulnerable in this port city—away from prostitution, or to free them from their pimps. To this end, he has created a special refuge for them. His strongest opponent in this struggle is Charly, a gangster and pimp from Marseille’s underworld, who makes a great deal of money from the girls. Charly has no intention of simply putting up with the priest’s efforts and begins to fight him aggressively. One day, the priest, who until then had seemed to be fighting a losing battle, appears to have a change of fortune: he receives help in the form of the bartender Paul. Paul has good reason to hate Charly and his schemes, since Paul’s fiancée, Néda, has also fallen into the pimp’s clutches. Gradually, Father Hermann’s pastoral work begins to bear fruit.
