Full plot (contains spoilers)
While saving her offspring from a bear attack, a female lynx was killed but managed to protect her cub. A forestry worker named Mikhalych found the tiny, helpless lynx cub. He brought it home, raised it on milk, and named it Kunak. The kitten began exploring the forestry worker’s house, then the surrounding area and the forest. It met and befriended a dog. A year passed. Word that a lynx had grown up in the forestry worker’s home spread throughout the region. Mikhalych was offered a lot of money for the lynx, but you don’t sell your friends. One day, Mikhalych managed to apprehend a gang of dangerous poachers. During the chase, the forestry worker’s dog was killed. One of the men was sent to prison for a year, but decided that after his release he would take revenge on the principled forestry worker. The gang managed to break into the forestry worker’s cabin and steal Kunak. They sold the rare animal to an animal circus. Acquaintances told Mikhalych, who was pining for his friend, that they had seen his lynx in the city. The bandits tied Mikhalych up and left him bound in the winter forest, counting on him to freeze to death or be torn apart by wolves. But at just the right moment, Kunak, who had escaped from the zoo, appeared and freed Mikhalych by gnawing through the ropes binding him.
