A bullied schoolboy with a power pole protruding from his back is sent into a vampire-ruled future to help save humanity.
The story
Hikari, a high school student with an electrical pole protruding from his back, is bullied until his classmate Momoko rescues him. A time machine then sends him 25 years into the future. There, middle-aged teacher Sariba explains that vampires have dominated the world for a decade, using an artificial cloud to move more freely. They plan to create a still denser cloud that will cover Earth in permanent darkness. Sariba asks Hikari to join her fight against them. His first clash with the vampires ends in failure, leaving him discouraged as the struggle to protect the future begins.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Hikari is a high school student with an electrical pole like the ones used for power lines sticking out of his back, which makes him a target for bullies. He is rescued from one of their attacks by his classmate Momoko. Hikari is then transported 25 years into the future by a time machine. There, he meets a middle-aged teacher named Sariba, who tells him that for the past ten years the world has been at the mercy of a sect of vampires (the Shinsengumi), who have created an enormous artificial cloud to move about more freely and intend to create an even denser one that will envelop the Earth in darkness forever. Sariba then asks Hikari to help her in her fight, and the boy agrees. However, his first clash with the vampires ends in failure, and Hikari loses heart. He is cheered up, though, when he discovers through a photo album that Mrs. Sariba is none other than Momoko. Another “electric-pole boy,” from a different era, appears and explains that he was the one who sent Hikari into the future so that he could save humanity’s future. Hikari and Sariba sneak into the vampires’ lair, where they discover that the vampires are using a strange machine to create an artificial woman (a “new Eve”) to give birth to the dark cloud (the “new Adam”). The machine’s tentacles attack Sariba and tear her to pieces. When all seems lost, the lamp attached to Hikari’s pole shines brighter than ever, annihilating the vampires and dispersing the gloomy cloud. The world is saved: Sariba’s daughter tells Hikari that he has fulfilled his mission, and the boy can return to his own time, ready to start a new life with Momoko.
