A police chief and his rookie deputy must defend their community from a mysterious creature after wildfires sever all communications.
The story
Ko Bum-seok, the police chief of Hope Harbor, is alerted to a dead cow with gaping wounds. While his cousin and a hunting party suspect a stray tiger, the discovery of more dead livestock and a deceased farmer suggests a more sinister presence. As wildfires break out and sever all communications, Bum-seok must team up with a retired colonel to track down a mysterious creature terrorizing the local community. The duo faces the daunting task of protecting the elderly residents of the village while navigating the chaos caused by the environmental disaster and the unknown threat lurking in the nearby mountains.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a local hunter finds a dead cow, police chief Ko Bum-seok discovers a large creature has massacred several villagers. He teams up with retired colonel Ahn Nak-yeon to track it, but they accidentally wound a local chef. Bum-seok eventually joins a militia and learns the creature is an intelligent, indestructible humanoid. Rookie officer Im Sung-ae saves him with grenades, and they eventually kill the creature when it is run over by a tanker. Later, they find a 'monster infant' named Kh'arli in a freezer; Bum-seok realizes the adult was searching for its offspring. Meanwhile, a hunting party finds a crashed spaceship and discovers the creatures are aliens. They are ambushed by the Empress J'aur and her subordinates. During a chaotic chase, a second spaceship from Emperor Kh'worl crashes nearby. The film ends with a mid-credits scene showing Sung-ki limping along a highway.
