After a teenager survives a catastrophic plane explosion by following a premonition, he and his friends find themselves hunted by a relentless force of death.
The story
High school student Alex Browning boards Volée Airlines Flight 180 for a senior trip to Paris. Before take-off, Alex has a premonition that the plane will explode in mid-air, killing everyone on board. When the events from his vision begin to occur in reality, he panics, leading to a confrontation that results in him and several others being removed from the plane just before it explodes. Following the disaster, the survivors are interrogated by FBI agents while Alex realizes that Death is attempting to claim the lives of those who were meant to die in the accident, forcing the survivors to confront the consequences of their survival.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a group of students is removed from Flight 180 following Alex's premonition of a crash, the plane explodes. The survivors are later confronted by mortician William Bludworth, who explains that by cheating death, they have disrupted its plan, and it is now hunting them in the order they were meant to die. The survivors face a series of escalating, often gruesome, accidents: Terry is hit by a bus, Ms. Lewton dies in a kitchen explosion, and Billy is killed by a piece of metal from a train. Alex attempts to calculate the sequence of deaths to save his friends, successfully rescuing Clear from a car explosion and Carter from a train. However, the final scene reveals that by saving Clear, Alex shifted the sequence, making himself the next target. The film ends with a sign falling toward him, and Carter pushing him out of the way, only for the sign to swing back toward Carter.
