The story
Owen, a sound engineer at a student union bar in Manchester, meets a girl named Emily who leaves him with a phone number containing a missing digit. When he attempts to contact her, he is mocked by his brother and begins a quest to find her. Meanwhile, a psychology student named Emily Raine is struggling to complete her thesis on the nature of love. When Owen approaches her in search of the other Emily, she decides to use his search as a case study for her research, leading to a series of misadventures as they navigate the complexities of his quest and her academic goals.

Owen, a sound engineer at a student union bar in Manchester, meets a girl named Emily who leaves him with a phone number containing a missing digit. He begins a quest to find her, and meets Emily Raine, a psychology student who uses his search as a case study for her thesis. Their partnership leads to controversy when Owen emails every 'Emily' on campus, resulting in him being labeled 'Email Guy' and losing his job after a viral performance. While Owen eventually finds the original girl, whose name is actually Amelie, their relationship is hindered by public scrutiny. Meanwhile, Emily Raine discovers Owen's realization that she used him as a case study and feels betrayed. After a period of separation, Emily uses her final presentation to apologize to Owen. He eventually accepts her apology, and the two share a kiss, confirming their feelings for one another.
