A young woman rebuilding her life as a tutor begins to fear that a killer from her traumatic past has returned.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Ever since a traumatic childhood experience in which her parents were killed by a serial killer armed with a sickle, Jeanette Fielmann has been receiving treatment in a psychiatric institution. Ten years later, she takes her first steps toward a new life. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Martin, finds her a job tutoring the Schroeder siblings, who come from a wealthy family, in French over the summer holidays. Jeanette is unsettled by the spoiled teenagers’ lifestyle, and the trio initially reject her. But Jeanette tries to win their affection with her tolerant, youthful manner. The eldest son, Leon, soon flirts intensely with her, and she falls for his charm. But something is wrong with this deceptive idyll, and Jeanette makes frightening observations about her surroundings. Everything points to her own past, and as time passes, she fears that she may not yet have come to terms with what happened. After a while, murders following the same pattern as before begin, and Jeanette is sure that her past has finally caught up with her and that the Sickle Killer has escaped and returned. The terrified teenagers turn to Dr. Martin for answers, while it also comes to light that the mysterious messages were made by the teenagers themselves, who are still hostile toward Jeanette. When the teens, pursued by the killer, accidentally seriously injure Dr. Martin, the dying psychiatrist tells them the truth: Jeanette herself killed the Sickle Killer back then and developed an obsession with killing as a result. That is why she was in the psychiatric institution. She committed the recent murders because the messages brought back her old memories. Now she is after the three of them. Both Melissa and Leon fall victim to her. The youngest, Lissy, initially manages to escape, but then Jeanette corners her… … at this point, the story jumps to the present, and Lissy is brought back from her memories by her psychiatrist, just as Jeanette was at the beginning of the film. We do not see what ultimately happened, but it seems that Lissy managed to kill Jeanette and then developed an obsession similar to Jeanette’s.
