A plane crash strands a group of passengers on a remote island, where a ruthless criminal takes control.
The story
Aboard a flight from Mexico to Caracas are a variety of passengers, including hardened criminal Mario Bertelli, being transferred to a Venezuelan prison. The plane crashes on a remote tropical island, killing the captain and several passengers, including industrialist Bert Frank, whose wife Ellen is aboard. Among the survivors, Bertelli has also escaped his guard. With the surviving food supplies, the group tries to settle on the island, but Bertelli quickly asserts control. Armed with a revolver, he orders the others around and begins imposing a reign of terror. Martine Duval, a dancer whose portable radio survived the crash, becomes involved with him, but Bertelli has no interest in using it to summon help.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Aboard a Super Constellation flying from Mexico to Caracas are all kinds of passengers, including the hardened criminal Mario Bertelli, who is being transferred to a Venezuelan penitentiary and is presumably awaiting execution there. A stroke of luck in the midst of misfortune for Bertelli: during the turbulent flight, the plane goes into a spin and makes a perfect crash landing on a tropical island far from anywhere. The captain and several passengers are killed, among them the industrialist Bert Frank, the much older husband of his fellow passenger Ellen. After settling on the remote island with the surviving food supplies, Bertelli—who has also, fortunately for him, got rid of his guard—shows everyone who is boss in this paradise. He orders the survivors around and, revolver in hand, quickly begins establishing a reign of terror. He soon begins a passionate affair with Martine Duval, a seductive blonde siren and a dancer who is as lascivious as she is buxom. Martine’s portable radio survived the crash, but her island lover has no interest in using it to call for help. Instead, Bertelli begins reducing the group of survivors with his firearm. But Martine soon proves to be a worthy adversary. What nobody knows is that another passenger has survived: the lawyer Henry Boone, who is thoroughly unscrupulous, having a murder on his conscience. And this man is every bit Bertelli’s equal in determination and ruthlessness. In the end, the police take Boone, whom Bertelli has exposed, into custody.
