Fluten (2019)

Jonas loses his job at a Hamburg start-up and cannot bring himself to tell his girlfriend, Katharina. She is under intense pressure shortly before her first state law exam, and he does not want to burden her further. He drifts through the big city on daily subway rides, hoping to be “washed ashore” somewhere. By chance, he runs into his former boss, Marc, and begins watching the successful young manager. Jonas’s behavior increasingly takes on criminal overtones: he breaks into Marc’s apartment and steals several items of clothing. He also seeks comfort in Melissa, an lively schoolgirl he meets on the subway, whom he sees several times and invites to Marc’s vacant apartment. There, however, Melissa firmly rejects his physical advances and abruptly ends the meeting by leaving the apartment. Jonas becomes ever more entangled in the lie, and his strange behavior increasingly strains his relationship with Katharina as well. When she discovers that he has withdrawn all the money from her savings account, the situation escalates, and Jonas completely loses control of events.
